Many stroke symptoms are common to men and women; the stroke is often characterized by an inability to speak or understand speech, tense expression, confusion, the most common symptoms of a stroke are:

  • 1. The sudden problem in seeing one eye or both eyes.
  • 2. Sudden numbness or weakness in the face and extremities, most likely on one side of the body.
  • 3. Sudden and severe headache without a known cause.
  • 4. Sudden vertigo or difficulty walking or loss of balance or coordination.

Research shows that women often improve better when stroke markers are identified correctly. A 2003 study found that 90 percent of women, compared with 85 percent of men, knew that trouble talking or sudden confusion was the signs of a stroke.

The study also found that most women and men fail to mention all symptoms correctly and determine when to contact emergency services.
