6. Fragile bones
Vitamin D is essential for mineralisation and bone strength. If you have broken your bones several times or have pain in your lower back or bones, you may have a vitamin D deficiency.
In fact, researchers have found a strong relationship between low vitamin D levels and low bone mineral density in more than 1,100 middle-aged menopausal or post-menopausal women (10).
It is important to get enough of this vitamin to maintain bone mass in old age.
