Stuffed Bread with Mozzarella and Salami

Ingredients

For the Dough (optional homemade version):

  • 2 ½ cups (315 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • ¾ cup (180 ml) warm water (plus more if needed)

You can also use store-bought pizza dough or baguette bread for a quicker version.

For the Filling:

  • 1 ½ cups (150 g) mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • ¾ cup (70 g) salami slices, chopped or layered
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning or dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

1. Make the Dough (if homemade)

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Add olive oil and warm water. Stir until the dough begins to form.
  3. Knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

2. Prepare the Filling

While the dough is rising, mix mozzarella, Parmesan, and chopped salami in a bowl.
Add a pinch of oregano or Italian herbs for extra flavor.

3. Shape and Fill

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll out the dough into a rectangle (about ¼ inch thick).
  3. Spread the filling evenly across the dough, leaving a 1-inch border.
  4. Roll it up tightly like a jelly roll and pinch the ends to seal.
    • Alternatively: cut a large loaf of bread or baguette lengthwise (but not all the way through) and stuff it with the mixture for a quicker method.

4. Brush and Bake

Place the roll (or stuffed bread) on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Brush the top with melted butter mixed with garlic powder and herbs.
Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown and crispy on top.

5. Serve

Let cool for 5 minutes, then slice into thick pieces.
Garnish with chopped parsley and serve with warm marinara sauce or garlic butter dip.

Tips for Best Results

  • Use low-moisture mozzarella to avoid sogginess.
  • Try pepperoni, ham, or prosciutto as substitutes for salami.
  • Add sun-dried tomatoes or caramelized onions for a gourmet touch.
  • You can bake this in a loaf pan or as a braided bread for a beautiful presentation.
