Homemade Turtle Candy
Ingredients (Makes ~20 candies)
- 2 cups pecan halves (toasted for extra flavor)
- 1 ½ cups soft caramel candies (or homemade caramel)
- 2 tbsp heavy cream (if using store-bought caramels)
- 2 cups semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
- 1 tbsp coconut oil or shortening (optional, for smoother chocolate)
- Sea salt flakes (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Pecans
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Arrange 4–5 pecan halves in small clusters (like a turtle’s legs and head).
2. Melt the Caramel
- In a microwave-safe bowl, heat caramel candies with heavy cream in 20-second intervals until smooth.
- Spoon about 1 tsp caramel over each pecan cluster, letting it drip and stick the nuts together.
- Let cool for 15 minutes until set.
3. Coat with Chocolate
- Melt chocolate (with coconut oil if using) until smooth.
- Spoon or drizzle over each caramel cluster, covering the caramel and pecans.
- If desired, sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt.
4. Set & Serve
- Chill in the fridge for 20–30 minutes until chocolate hardens.
- Store in an airtight container at room temp for 1 week (or in fridge for 2–3 weeks).
