Homemade Turtle Candy

Ingredients (Makes ~20 candies)

  • 2 cups pecan halves (toasted for extra flavor)
  • 1 ½ cups soft caramel candies (or homemade caramel)
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream (if using store-bought caramels)
  • 2 cups semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil or shortening (optional, for smoother chocolate)
  • Sea salt flakes (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Pecans

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Arrange 4–5 pecan halves in small clusters (like a turtle’s legs and head).

2. Melt the Caramel

  • In a microwave-safe bowl, heat caramel candies with heavy cream in 20-second intervals until smooth.
  • Spoon about 1 tsp caramel over each pecan cluster, letting it drip and stick the nuts together.
  • Let cool for 15 minutes until set.

3. Coat with Chocolate

  • Melt chocolate (with coconut oil if using) until smooth.
  • Spoon or drizzle over each caramel cluster, covering the caramel and pecans.
  • If desired, sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt.

4. Set & Serve

  • Chill in the fridge for 20–30 minutes until chocolate hardens.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temp for 1 week (or in fridge for 2–3 weeks).
